Mary J. Blige has been getting dragged through wet clay dirt on social networking sites every since her "Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap" Burger King commercial went viral yesterday. The comments were so on point and negative, that Burger King has deleted the ad on their YouTube channel, yet David Beckham and Jay Leno commercials still remain online. Eating fried chicken has always been associated with black people (since slavery), and honestly it wasn't the racist aspect of the bird that got me so riled up. Last time I checked white folks/other cultures eat just as much chicken as black people if not more. Just ask any employee of KFC about the herds of white folk, so don't believe the hype!
In my mind, Mary is of iconic/legendary status, and standing on top of a table belting out ingredients to processed food that's been killing the African American community for years isn't my idea of success. Nor is it necessary with a 20 year career….SMH
Bottom line, Burger King marketed this embarrassment of a video to BLACK PEOPLE, perpetuating the stereotype and now they are feeling the backlash from it! Thanks to pissed off fans….
MJB was paid a cool $2 million for the commerical, but "All Money ain't good money!"
